If aware what happened in this last decade, it seems the telecommunication business has shifted to mobile telecommunication business – the mobile internet business exactly. It can be said that the telecommunication business these days is around the smart phones as well as tablet PCs which is the hottest mobile gadgets in my opinion. Therefore, it is important to understand what is the Mobile Telecommunication about.
One way to understand about Mobile Telecommunication is to understand the terms around it. So, here I am now to share the Mobile Telecommunication Terms via this telecommunication blog:
First Generation (1G)
1G refers to the first generation of mobile telecommunication technology. 1G is a starting point of mobile telecommunication world wide. In the 1G era, the mobile telecommunication is still very basic with bad quality and limited resources voice connection without value added service such as messaging, internet, contents, and more.
Second Generation (2G)
2G refers to the second generation of mobile telecommunication technology. 2G is next step after the 1G which means offers more advance mobile telecommunication technology to telecommunication users. GSM and CDMA 2000 (which is still used around the world so far) is the example for this 2G mobile telecommunication technology. 2G offers better quality as well as security for voice call. The short messaging service (SMS) is also started in this 2G mobile telecommunication technology.
Second and Half Generation (2.5G)
2.5G refers to the transition of mobile telecommunication technology between 2G and 3G. 2.5G mobile telecommunication technology offers more data service capacity than 2G mobile telecommunication technology. 2.5G mobile technology starts the GPRS and CDMA1X era with very slow mobile internet service. It is a mobile internet service with dial-up speed.
Second and Third Generation (2.75G)
2.75G refers to the transition of mobile telecommunication technology between 2.5G and 3G. We can include the EDGE in this 2.75G mobile telecommunication technology. 2.75G mobile telecommunication technology offers better data service speed that 2.5G mobile telecommunication technology. EDGE offers 236.8 kbps data service speed.
Third Generation (3G)
3G refers to third generation of mobile telecommunication technology. 3G is announced in Japan on year 2001. Right after that, 3G mobile telecommunication technology is spread out world wide fast. 3G mobile telecommunication technology offers next level of mobile data service. 3G started the fast mobile internet connection – the mobile broadband service. The access speed of 3G mobile telecommunication internet is up-to 2 Mbps which is very enough to upload/download the heavy consume bandwidth contents such as video, music, etc.
